4 Practices To Improve Health And Wellness

December 20, 20234 min read

What if we told you that feeling physically and mentally out of whack is likely because you are imbalanced.

You’d probably ask: “In what way?”

Answer: it depends. Every person is different.

Luckily, there are some very easy things that you can implement right now to address imbalances, physically and mentally.

These are in no particular order, and all will have a positive impact on your health, wellness, and well-roundedness.

1. Breathe Through The Nostrils

Breathing through your nose is how you are meant to breathe. Unless you are in an extreme state of exhaustion (like you just out-ran a bear to save your life), then you should always be inhaling AND exhaling through the nostrils.

This alone can significantly change your life, minute by minute. And if you’re new to this, you might be shocked at how much you breathe throughout your day through the mouth. Start paying attention to this, and breathing in and out through the nose, and you will be pleasantly surprised.

Is your nose congested or blocked? Try the arm swing breath pump (we made the video free for you). You can also click on the image below - it will take you to AETV, our app.

The arm swing breath pump is the simplest way to clear a stuffed nasal passage when mucous is not an issue.

2. Stillness And Silence In The Morning

Intensity lives in stillness and silence. Taking a few minutes first thing in the morning to feel stillness and silence is a powerful practice.

Each morning:

  • wake up, smile that you’re alive, use the bathroom (rinse face, mouth, use toilet), have a big glass of water (room temperature to lukewarm)

  • sit on the ground with your spine erect, close your eyes, and don’t do anything else for about 10 minutes.

If you struggle with sitting in a cross-legged position, elevate your bum on a cushion. Gradually reduce the height of the elevation over time until you can comfortably sit on the ground.

Before sitting in silence, you can do some form of classical yoga. We do hatha yoga, learned exclusively from Isha Foundation. We highly recommend it. Whatever you choose to do, make sure it is based in science, and not a butchered form of yoga that is taught as exercise.

If you want a morning routine, Bayan Botanicals has a great resource on daily routines based on your dosha.

Lastly, the quality of water you drink is extremely important. Prior to consumption, water should be still. Ideally, it would be contained in copper.

3. Barefoot As Much As Possible

Ever hear the saying “you die from your feet up”? Most people have dead feet - most sensory perception is lost, most motor control is lost, and there is little to no resilience.

This is a weakness. Weak feet = weak body.

Along the same lines, your skin should be in contact with the ground every day. In cold climates, it might be hard to do - so at least by being barefoot inside, you will get some benefit.

Note: there are some people who take barefootedness to the next level, and walk around city streets and other unnatural, highly populated areas without shoes. In our experience, you can easily contract major disease by being barefoot in this conditions. So we recommend erring on the side of sense always, and stick to barefoot in natural settings.

4. Eat Less

Put your pinky fingers side by side and make a cup with your hands. This represents the size of your stomach. Now think about how much food you eat each day (at each meal, with snacks, and the total daily amount).

Is it more than two stomach’s full? If you’re under the age of 30, then that’s OK, as long as you’re eating nutrient-dense food.

When over the age of 30, eat twice a day only. And at each meal, eat only what will fit in your two hands, and nothing else.

If you’re looking at it and thinking “this will never be enough food” - actually, if you eat the right things, it is definitely enough to sustain a human throughout each day.

The human body is designed to thrive off of as little food as possible. Overconsumption of food is rampant, particularly in North America.

Using this two-hand measurement as a guide, if you start eating only things that will nourish you, you’re going to see a huge improvement in your health and how you feel every day.

Conclusion

Putting your hands together will show you the size of your stomach. Are you overeating?

Incorporating these four practices each day will dramatically improve your health. We’ve done it, and can attest to the potency. Note: this list excludes anything movement or exercise-related.

Remember, living with an abundance of energy is not rocket-science. We overcomplicate health - which is actually our default state (believe it or not). Most of the time, simply removing excess from your life, like food or thought, is all it takes to be well on your way to thriving health.
