We are providing a model of athletic training that is more natural and widely accessible to every athlete, and that requires a fraction of the resources. We offer the highest standard of guidance for athletic performance, for self-driven athletes. Our approach affords each athlete a flexible yet comprehensive framework, within which they can develop their true potential.
We develop and deliver sustainable performance enhancement training programs for teams and organizations across Canada.
We provide training plans that your entire team can easily follow. There are significant benefits to having a team performance plan:
Keeps everyone on the same page and moving in the same direction
Fosters group support and accountability
Allows tracking and highlighting of progress at the individual and team levels, strengthening morale and reinforcing a mindset of continuous improvement
Keeps everyone training together and on-track in the off-season, regardless of physical proximity
Encourages healthy intra-team competition for more individual and collective growth
In the event where you have an athlete who requires an exceptional level of individual attention, we offer an option to include more personalized programming (e.g. position-specific requirements, unique injuries, etc.). Usually, the comprehensive team plans we provide suffices for 90% or more of the team’s preparation needs.
Our training is athleticism-focused, based in the science of efficient movement and injury-free performance, saving athletes time and money.
There are several key principles incorporated into our training programs that lead to results which exceed standard, common practices. A few examples include:
Joint-friendly Conditioning
Most athletes are putting miles on their bodies that are wearing down their joints, leading to unnecessary chronic pains/injuries.
Instead of running athletes into the ground in the name of fitness, we’ve found much better results by using movements that allow the athlete to train explosive power and speed, and develop endurance, without overloading the joints and sinews.
Elastic Strength
Weightlifting, powerlifting, and bodybuilding exercises are often over-utilized in athletic strength training, leading to strength-biased or muscle-dominant movement patterns that diminish natural elasticity and springiness of the body over time.
While those strength training techniques can offer some valuable benefits if incorporated and used correctly within an athletic training program, over-relying on them is a costly mistake.
The way we incorporate these techniques into our overall training approach ensures that athletes retain elasticity, healthy joints, and coordination for more efficient application of strength.
Athletic Flexibility
In our programs, strength and flexibility are two sides of the same coin,. They’re developed simultaneously in a way that is most useful for the athlete.
When athletes are inflexible and have to warm-up extensively to access their full athletic potential, it’s an indicator that their training methods are incorrect and inefficient.
Our training methods produce instantly accessible range, with strength and power through the full range of motion, without wasting time doing static stretching or isolated joint mobility drills.
Accessibility
Our team training is a highly affordable alternative, costing a fraction of hiring a strength coach, while providing better results.
We can deliver our training with a professional, user-friendly online platform to offer on-demand, 100% virtual delivery. When the Covid-19 risk is low, for teams who are local to us, we offer a blended delivery option, where we conduct sessions in-person in conjunction with the online component.
Our virtual delivery model means:
We can very track progress of athletes following programs
We can provide ongoing coaching and support, like form coaching and feedback, via your team’s own Telegram group (private and encrypted)
We can host live virtual group sessions, 1:1 sessions, and train-the-trainer mentorship opportunities
Our training is regenerative for the body. Proper training should:
reverse any damage you may sustain from sports
strengthen rather than deteriorate the joints
In addition, the nature of our in-season training allows athletes to continue making gains during the season, despite the rigorous demands of their sport.
Our programming and expertise goes beyond what is in the wheelhouse of a standard Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach. Practical training for sports with a high degree of variability and unpredictability cannot be limited to a boxed collection of strength and conditioning exercises. There must be tasks and situations that demand problem-solving under pressure while providing real-time, realistic feedback. Practical athletic training involves developing much more than isolated qualities like strength, mobility, and endurance.
Training (including warming up, cooling down, and any rehabilitative exercises) should not take an exorbitant amount of time. We notice that typical strength and conditioning programming requires an athlete to allot anywhere from 60 to 150 minutes per training session. Based on practical and hands-on experience, this is not necessary and is usually a sign of an inexperienced coach.
Our training requires minimal time spent, so that the athlete can spend more time where it’s needed most - practicing and playing their sport. However, the time spent needs to be with 100% focus and commitment in order to get the best results. There is no time or space to cut corners, get distracted, and give less than full attention. Only the right level of attention and involvement in training will cultivate the mental and physical capability needed for superior performance in high-pressure situations.
I specialize in helping athletes train in a sustainable way to stay injury-free and be as physically versatile as possible for their full sports career.
Now a professional trainer, and formerly a varsity point guard, I have a thorough understanding of the physical demands of multi-directional sports and how to prepare realistically for them. Using my experience and expertise, I develop in-season and off-season training programs that produce the best results with minimum time spent in the gym, so players can focus on what they do best.
For more than a decade, I’ve been researching and testing the most practical methods of reversing and preventing joint stress and injuries from basketball and other high impact agility sports. My programs are performance-enhancing, rehabilitative, and preventative, all at the same time. Alongside programming, I also identify and correct specific weaknesses in athletes - which, if not addressed, almost always lead to chronic injuries and diminished performance later on.
As an athlete, coach, consultant, teacher, and trainer I have more than 25 years of combined experience. In 2005, I completed a masters degree in Sport Management with extensive research in biomechanics and sports performance training. During my undergrad and masters degrees, I played a combined four years of varsity basketball, achieving Rookie All-Star and Academic All-Canadian honours. My past experience as a successful varsity student-athlete gives me a valuable perspective and advantage in my current role as a high performance coach and advisor to young athletes.
My approach to physical training has continuously evolved and been refined over many years. I’ve developed a highly unique, well-rounded set of skills and expertise. For over a decade I’ve been applying scientific knowledge from highly successful international sports performance coaches and movement experts from various disciplines, to help athletes at all levels across many sports.
